In October, the WFU Center for Energy, Environment and Sustainability welcomed Ashley Wilcox as the Program Assistant for the new Master of Arts in Sustainability.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Sciences from Florida State University, Wilcox worked for the Early Learning Coalition of Manatee County as a behavior training and inclusion specialist. While at the non-profit, she became interested in the legislation that impacted the coalition’s work and segued to the Florida Senate Majority Office. As the Administrative Assistant, Wilcox summarized daily bills that were then disseminated to senators.
At the close of the session, Wilcox transitioned back to the education realm where she served as the Honors Program staff assistant at the University of Tampa. In this role, Wilcox coordinated the honors program courses, organized speaker series, and advised students who pursued the honors program.
Wilcox enjoys working with exemplary students in higher education, and was attracted to the unique opportunity to support the launch of the MA in Sustainability at Wake Forest. “I liked the fact that the master’s was brand new. I wanted to get involved on the ground floor and really help develop the program,” stated Wilcox.
She has found that the transdiciplinary nature of the program has advantages not only academically, but also administratively. “I get to work with a wide variety of people across campus, which has made the transition easier,” said Wilcox.
The MA in Sustainability is currently accepting applications for fall admission. The priority application deadline for the fall 2014 class is January 15, 2014. Learn more about the program and application requirements here.
