“COP24 Recap: Is the Annual Climate Summit Still Effective?” CEES Colloquium

February 28 * 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Justin Catanoso, a professor in the journalism program, has covered United Nations climate summits in Lima, Peru (2014), Paris, France (2015), Marrakesh, Morocco (2016), and Katowice, Poland (2018).  His talk will provide a recap of his most recent trip to Poland for COP24 in December 2018 in context with previous summits he has covered. He will discuss what it achieved, how it fell far short of expectations and needs, and why this 25-year-old process — even with the success of the Paris Agreement — may not be the best way to deal with climate change mitigation going forward on the scale necessitated by our current state.
